Debaters For

Sam Mannering

We have a Thespian among the debaters. Sam is an Auckland based actor, writer and chef who graduated from London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2012. He appears in live theatre and on film. Sam is a food writer for Sunday Star Times and the author of two fine books - 'A Year's Worth' and 'Food Worth Making', so he knows a bit about food, and can perform. Will this be a winning combination on the night?

Anthony Tringham

AKA – Mr Curious Croppers, Anthony and Angela Tringham are the leading growers of the best cranky but beautiful tomatoes, and other vegetables with personality. The vegetables inherit their quirkiness from Anthony, who has a way with words, and strong opinions on food issues facing New Zealand.

Jennifer Yee

Jennifer is a multi-talented foodie with experience as a product developer, dietitian, radio/TV presenter and is a published author. She has a love affair with Vietnam and has taken guided tours there since 2000. Never short of an opinion, Jennifer has very well informed opinions on food issues which she will put to good use in the debate!

Lauraine Jacobs

We are proud to have Lauraine on our debating team this year. Especially as this is a topic she is passionate about. Lauraine is a Past President of the NZGFW, food columnist for the NZ Listener, and author/editor of nine cookbooks. A strong supporter of artisan producers, regional specialty foods and farmers’ markets, she is all worked up about the potential for New Zealand food and wine. Her current mission is to see New Zealand become internationally recognised for food and wine experiences.

Martin Bosley

Martin Bosley is one of New Zealand’s most respected and experienced chefs. He is a former winner of New Zealand’s Best Restaurant and currently works as a consultant to various hospitality enterprises, including the Mojo group. He is the food columnist for Kia Ora, the Air New Zealand magazine. Martin started the successful Wellington City Market, is passionate about great New Zealand food and will have some strong views to share.

Catherine Smith

Catherine is editor of Herald Weekend Life, covering stories around food and food tourism. Through her travels and consequent experiences she has developed some very informed opinions about New Zealand food and our food culture. Not one for mincing her words, Catherine will add plenty of heat to the debate. vaughndavis

MC: Vaughan Davis

Vaughan owns Auckland advertising and social media business The Goat Farm and is rumoured to have consumed goats! He admits to working for McDonald's as a mystery shopper. He also hosts shows on Radio Live, where he once got Nadia Lim to admit that her favourite late night indulgence is KFC. His wit, charm, and repartee should keep our debaters honest.
